Final Fantasy VII to Spawn More Spin-Off Games

inal Fantasy VII is one of the most iconic video games ever. Its remake even makes its reputation stronger, and, which was quite an unusual decision, it will contain several installments, each covering a certain part of an original story. But it’s not enough: according to teasers by the publisher, there will be more spin-offs.

The remake of Final Fantasy VII is ambitious like a few other games. But to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the original version, the developers decided to expand its universe. And while the gaming community awaits the second installment of the core game, spinoff titles are on their way. One such title is already available: it’s a mobile Battle Royale named FFVII: The First Soldier. Its approach to the genre is unique, just like the franchise assumes. But there are more titles on the way, and they may explore other genres within the FFVII universe.

Little is known about them yet. But confirmations come one by one. First, Yoshinori Kitase, the director of both the original and the remake versions, hints at this on Twitter. Tetsuya Nomura, the creative director of FFVII Remake, seconds him. According to scarce leaks and hints, there may be a mobile RPG title or even several. What we can guess about is the FFVII Ever Crisis, a sort of retelling of the original on mobiles. it may look at Cloud Strife’s story from another perspective, so it makes sense for both fans of the original and for those who have never played it.

Genre exploration is a great thing. RPG and Battle Royale are great, and there is some space to make a strategy or a tactical shooter. But let’s hope they won’t make an FFVII-themed Match-3 game. This would be too much.

Have you played the original, the remake, or both? Are you satisfied with The First Soldier? What do you expect from new Final Fantasy VII titles? If you have something to say, share it in the comments!
