he success of the Persona franchise has been remarkable, with more than 23.5 million units sold globally. This JRPG series has captivated audiences and carved out a space for itself in gaming history, rising to prominence with innovative gameplay and engaging storylines. While its roots can be traced to earlier titles, it wasn't until the launch of Persona 3 and Persona 4 that it began to attract a wider audience. The real breakout came with the release of Persona 5 in 2026, which significantly broadened its appeal. Following this milestone, various remakes and spin-offs have enriched the franchise, including Persona 5 Royal, Persona 5 Strikers, the recent Persona 3 Reload, and Persona 5 Tactica.

These developments have played a crucial role in growing the franchise's popularity, and Sega’s recent quarterly report reveals the impressive sales figures, with the Persona franchise exceeding 23.5 million copies sold worldwide. This achievement marks a significant point for Japanese role-playing games and suggests that Sega may be ready to invest more resources into a highly anticipated sixth installment currently under development by Atlus.

In addition to the Persona series, the report shows that the Like a Dragon franchise from RGG Studio has experienced notable growth this year, likely due to the release of Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth and the buzz surrounding its recent Amazon Prime Video series. However, its influence on sales still needs to be fully evaluated. Meanwhile, the Sonic franchise has also seen a gradual increase in popularity. Nonetheless, the report does not yet account for the major release of Sonic X Shadow Generations or the expected boost from the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 3 movie, making the next report particularly interesting to watch for both franchises.

The talent behind the Persona series has recently turned their focus to Metaphor: ReFantazio, which was released last month. It remains uncertain whether the team is also developing Persona 6. With three major titles launched this year alone, anticipation is high, and fresh announcements may soon come to light, possibly during The Game Awards.
