BO Max made it! The video service goes right to the top 10 list of most downloaded apps in the US during 2021. Meanwhile, this year you will find neither Disney+ nor Netflix there. Let’s just assume that these apps were downloaded on every smartphone back in 2020. The chart was created by the Apptopia portal.

The list was made based on the annual app’s downloads. Service WarnerMedia calculated each download made from December 21 of 2020 and December 20 of 2021. They calculated more than 45 million downloads. New calculations revealed some major changes in apps’ popularity. Last October they revealed a similar list. There is a tricky situation with multiple app downloads on one account, so WarnerMedia has to calculate not only downloads but the number of subscribers. By September 30 HBO Max and HBO reported 45.2 million official subscribers. Streaming usually takes place on a wide range of smart TVs instead of mobile devices, so the data may be not 100 percent exact.

As for the global calculations, TikTok is still number 1 in the world. It has 656 million downloads and easily wins the crown. The second place belongs to Instagram with its 545 million downloads. Keeping the world leadership, TikTok also wins the US competition with 94 million downloads.

  9. YouTube and 47 million downloads;

  10. HBO Max and 45 million downloads.
