Facebook, currently rebranded as Meta, was considering for some time to turn Workplace app into a separate company that could be worth well over one billion dollars. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, it was decided that Workplace will continue being a part of Facebook.

If you’re unfamiliar with the Workplace app, it is an extremely popular tool that helps over 7 million businesses to collaborate. At first, this app was simply meant to facilitate collaboration among Facebook employees, but it quickly become a lot more than that.

According to rumors, various investors were proposing to invest in the Workplace app, if Facebook agreed to make it a separate entity. Despite multiple lucrative offers, Facebook decided to keep this app as an important asset of their company.

Workplace app is basically an alternative Facebook used by workers. Similar to Slack, it offers employees a great way to communicate with each other. Workplace app is used by many top-tier businesses including Starbucks, Booking, DANONE, etc.

Facebook is constantly working on expanding the functionality of the app. For example, the recent collaboration with Microsoft allowed integrating video chat into this app. This feature will likely become available in 2023 as part of the standard package.

The Workplace is also well-integrated with Teams, which allows accessing content located in Workplace through Teams, which means that there is no need to use two separate apps at the same time. Aside from that, Workplace is also integrated with WhatsApp, which means that any content located in Workplace can easily be posted and shared via WhatsApp.
