GameStop CEO Proposes Mandatory Disk Drives in Future Consoles

espite the enduring popularity of physical media for video games, there's no arguing the swift rise of digital as the predominant method for buying games. Both Sony and Microsoft have even introduced consoles that lack disc drives.
However, this shift isn't universally welcomed. Ryan Cohen, the boss of GameStop and its largest shareholder, has expressed his belief that consoles should be required to have disc drives.
While it's likely that Cohen's standpoint stems from the challenge video game stores face in staying afloat without physical video games to sell, he also argues in favor of game preservation and the preference some gamers still have for physical copies. As it stands, the possibility of acquiring physical video games is dwindling, evidenced by the decision not to release a physical copy of Alan Wake 2.
