nstagram and Meta as a whole strive to improve their services, making them as secure and safe as possible for different categories of users. Along with the regular revision of the terms of use, taking into account the current situation in the world, the developers also add new features. So, quite recently, the function of moderating live streams became available. It will protect authors and viewers from possible provocations from trolls, hostile people, and scammers.
Stream hosts will now be able to assign moderators for the streams. Their duties include monitoring viewers’ activity, removing bots, reporting on comments, and even completely disabling comments. Of course, it’s quite challenging to do all it on your own in real-time while conducting a high-quality broadcast simultaneously. Now a specially picked person will be able to keep order. This feature is similar to Facebook Live in its essence, so if you are familiar with it, you will quickly figure out what’s what.
If you’d like to try out the new feature now, make sure your app is updated to the latest version. You’ll find the new tool by clicking the three dots button on the comment panel while streaming. Here you can assign users as moderators manually or choose among people proposed by the platform.
In terms of moderating live streams, Instagram is not a pioneer. On the contrary, it is a little late with this much-needed functionality. YouTube, Twitch, and even Facebook (also a Meta service) have had similar opportunities for a long time. Recall that Live Streams on Instagram appeared back in 2016, and they received the moderation option only now.
How often do you stream on Instagram? Have you ever had to delete comments or block trolls on the go? Will the new feature be useful to you?
