Xbox Live Gold to Game Pass Ultimate Conversion Trick Undergoes Significant Reduction

n what seems to be a disappointment for many gamers, Microsoft has revised the conversion rate for Xbox Live Gold to Game Pass Ultimate. The once lucrative loophole that allowed players to enjoy up to 3 years of Game Pass Ultimate at a significantly reduced cost has been diminished. The conversion rate, previously a 1:1 ratio, has been reduced to a 3:2 ratio, effectively decreasing the value of the Game Pass Ultimate plan by 33%.
This change was brought to light by the gaming community on the XboxSeriesX subreddit. A user shared an update from Microsoft’s FAQ page, confirming the adjusted conversion rate. Under the previous system, gamers could enjoy 36 months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate by converting an equal amount of Xbox Live Gold for a mere $1. This loophole offered an unprecedented value, allowing access to the premium service for a fraction of the listed price.
However, with the new conversion rate, every 90 days of Xbox Live Gold now translates to only 60 days of Game Pass Ultimate. For example, as shared by Reddit user ShiftaDeband, despite having Xbox Live Gold till May 2026, the converted Game Pass Ultimate will now only last till June 2025. This essentially means that the user will miss out on almost a year of Game Pass Ultimate usage.
This change could potentially affect a significant number of gamers who have been using this trick to get the most out of their Game Pass Ultimate subscription. Despite the reduced conversion rate, the Game Pass Ultimate value proposition remains strong. It provides access to a vast array of games, including new releases, for a monthly fee.
In conclusion, while this change may seem detrimental to some, it's important to remember that the cost of the Game Pass Ultimate still offers excellent value. With PlayStation’s own service gaining traction, the competition is heating up. Nevertheless, the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate remains one of the best deals out there for avid gamers.
